Exhibition Work ready

Today I put all the pieces together that I plan to send down to Minerva in Wellington for the group exhibition I am part of in June. I like to see all the pieces together before I decide if they will all go into the show or not. I seem to get a feeling about the collection as a whole as well as each individual piece. Sometimes the pieces look fine on their own but somehow don't look good together.
I am pleased with this small collection so that's good, I can cross this off the list now! Onto the next thing.

time to play

Sometimes its fun just to play. The quilt group I am part of were going to have a 15 minutes of play day on Sunday, but due to various things we have postponed it for later in the year.
I was all ready to play so I had a couple of hours last night and half of today playing.
15 minutes of play is a really cool book can't remember who wrote it sorry! where you make fabric out of all your scraps and then cut that up to make a quilt. My scarp pile looks pretty much the same size but I do have the start of a pretty cool quilt. And all just for Fun, really good for us all the play sometimes.

Satin Stitch

First I stitched the fabric down, using small stab stitch.

Then onto the best bit, the satin stitch edge, I love it! I haven't got rid of all the bits of thread yet, I would never make a stylist!

Long and short face, stem stitch hair.

More satin stitch! Think I need to design a piece that is all satin stitch.

Stitched words

I really like stitching words, I just have to know what to say!
For my latest piece which is called '500 friends but all alone' I wanted a list of names to stitch onto the background. When I came to sit down to write the names it took me ages to think of them even thought I know heaps of people. Lucky I didn't need to think of 500!

Quilt Show

I have just had a lovely day stitching at a quilt show in Warkworth, that's a small town just north of Auckland. I had a display of my quilts and embroiderers and I was there all day today stitching the 1st blocks for a new quilt. I talked to some great people and had some very nice comments about my work which always makes you feel good. Hopefully I have inspired a few people.

Also I added a page to this blog as a gallery of work, you can click on the gallery of work just above my photo on the side bar. I will add images from time to time, in random order just so you can see some of my past work.

Face started

This is the face on the screen of my cell phone. Worked with 1 strand of stranded cotton using split stitch. Some of the lines of stitching will leave the screen and spread onto the background, Just like how cell phones have worked their way into every part of life!

Next piece started

Here is the start of my next piece of work, It will be called Constantly Connected. The idea that some people never turn their cell phones off and it starts to become a huge part of life.

I was going to take a picture of the fabric just pinned down but forgot and did all the stitching of the numbers before I remembered I was going to photograph it stage by stage! maybe next time.
The next stage is the face on the screen. I am going to do that flesh coloured using split stitch. I will try to photograph that bit by bit.

Stole delivered

I have just delivered a white stole to a lovely lady in Auckland. She is head of the New Zealand Mothers Union as well as being a new priest so she wanted a stole to reflect her 2 roles.
